Since early times the Church has celebrated a season of fasting and penitence for 40 days before Easter. This is called the Season of Lent and during Lent you will find many Christians abstaining from certain foods or practices or by going to their local church daily for prayer and devotion. This is a time when we recognize our sinfulness and look towards the coming Crucifixion of our Lord which leads gloriously to His Resurrection.
Water and Spirit provides daily devotions for each day from Ash Wednesday to the Resurrection of Our Lord/Vigil of Easter (traditionally known as Holy Saturday).
Devotions begin with a brief passage from the Gospel of John followed by brief reflections written by the authors. As you read the daily devotions, pause to think about how John describes water and the Spirit, and how water and the Spirit are at work in your life.
We will gather on Friday during Lent to read and reflect together on the reading for the day.
